Towards this end, the university held a meeting with academicians and experts recently . Headed by RGUHS Vice Chancellor S Ramananda Shetty, various suggestions for the program were mooted. Another round of discussions is scheduled before a final decision is taken.
Post-graduate medical and dental students are expected to benefit from the move as they will get practical guidance from experts at the new centers. The duration of the training is likely to be 2-3 months.
RGUHS registrar S Vasanth Kumar told that most doctors prefer to work in private hospitals . "This is because of monetary benefits and recognition . Also, state-of-the-art facilities are available at private hospitals," he said. He added that students will also be exposed to modern technology , which is not available at most government and private teaching hospitals.
The registrar added that PG students have to study specialized areas such as neurology and cardiology. "Not all institutes have advanced training in these areas. For instance, a student who has to study cancer as part of the curriculum may not have the facility at the institute. In such cases, the students will be posted to a cancer hospital identified as a centre of excellence by the university," he explained.
The centres of excellence will be identified based on parameters drafted by the university . "There are parameters we are considering, including state-of-the-art facilities ," he said. After the training , students' feedback will be taken on whether the training was beneficial, how they were treated, the quality of teaching, etc.
