2 Years on, RGUHS Yet to Place Scam Report Before Syndicate

Thirty-three months after the J K Arora Committee submitted its findings on the internal assessment marks scam at the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), action is still awaited. Reason: The university is yet to place the report before the Syndicate.

File noting accessed by The Express showed that though the medical education department asked the RGUHS to place a copy of the Arora Committee report before the Syndicate in May 2006, the university has not acted. After a gap of nearly two years, the medical education department has sent another “reminder” on September 8, 2008 to the vicechancellor to discuss the matter before the Syndicate and report it to the Government.

The Arora Committee, constituted in March 2005, submitted its first report on December 22, 2005. After the chief minister’s approval, it was forwarded to the Chancellor. On April 27, 2006, the then Secretary to the Governor asked the government to write to the RGUHS directing the university to place the matter before the Syndicate. The medical education department wrote to the vice-chancellor of RGUHS on May 29, 2006 asking for the report to be discussed in the Syndicate.

The university is yet to reply.

While part one of the report awaits the Syndicate’s opinion, the subsequent report submitted by the Committee on June 30, 2006 is yet to be discussed by the Medical Education Minister. The second part of the report will have to be approved by the Minister, the Chief Minister and the Governor before it is sent to the university to be placed before the Syndicate.
